AI video creation tools, What's in Your Bag, Concussion Awareness and Activity, Farm Safety Loteria , Data-Driven Safety, and Halloween
Welcome to the September issue of The Safety Training Net! In the United States, a new school year has started. Even if you are not considered a student by formal definition, I believe you are a learner if you subscribe to this newsletter. I try to cover ideas and topics you might not usually come across in your day-to-day job and training classes so you can use this information to help you make safety training and communications better. In January, I’ll be sharing a new Upskilling Chart that will offer 12 topics for you to take a deep dive into. I use a variety of trend reports from different organizations and feedback from subscribers. This is where you come in. If there is something new looming n the horizon that you think should be on the radar of subscribers like yourself, please let me know. Any and all ideas are welcome. As you can see in the pie chart below, we cover a lot of areas in 2024. I will be putting all of the upskilling information I have shared into an ebook, and will share this with VIP subscribers.
September is concussion awareness month. We usually hear concussion discussions centered around sports but these invisible injuries occur in the workplace as well. Use the concussion infographic and associated infographic activity to help bring awareness to causes and treatment. You can download both here.
VIP Subscribers have access to a new concussion awareness training activity called Heads You Win - Tails You Lose! It includes 20 different concussion scenarios and instructions for helping attendees to understand prevention and response strategies. Download details can be found in the VIP section below.
There have been big advances in technology and availability of AI Video creation platforms. Why would you want to use AI video? If you like to use video clips in your training programs, stock video can be expensive if you don’t have the resources or skills to create your own. Like everything, what you put in, in this case, the prompt, will determine the quality of what you get out. I’ve tested these and I although not perfect, I think they have potential. I’m trying to use more video myself so you will see a link to a short demo for each. Give them a try and let me know what you think! (Note: there are also a few other AI examples scattered throughout this newsletter)

What’s Up in October?
October is usually associated with Fire Safety (It's NFPA's National Fire Prevention Week (8th-14th) but there are several other safety and health-related events to focus on too. It's the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health's National Protect Your Hearing Month, and it's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
October is also the time where you’ll see Halloween decorations everywhere! In past newsletters, I’ve written about ideas for using Halloween decorations in your safety training. If you’ve missed these, you can download them here.

Farm Safety Lotería in English and Spanish
I’ve created a new Farm Safety Lotería game (in English and Spanish) - a topic that I have not covered before in this newsletter. Even if you do not work with farm workers, the activity can be used with landscaping crews and others that may work in similar environments. You can download the packet here. If you’d like to see a quick overview of the game, check out this short game guide I made with a new AI platform called Gamma.
