A little more than a year ago, Google rolled out an experimental AI tool called NotebookLM. With NotebookLM, you can upload PDF and text files, and the AI transforms them into various helpful formats, like FAQs, study guides, and briefing documents. However, the standout feature is its ability to create a podcast-style conversation. I tried this feature for the September newsletter, and honestly, I was blown away. I posted this experiment on The Safety Training Net website but did not email it separately to subscribers so if you want to check it out, you can find it here. I also created a mini-podcast version of this newsletter and will try to do the same for all issues in the future in case anyone prefers to listen instead of, or in addition to, reading the content. You can listen to this issue here.
Whatβs Up in November?
Two events related to lung health will occur in November. The American Cancer Societyβs Great American Smoke Out is scheduled for November 21st and the American Lung Association promotes Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Both provide resources on their websites.
Iβve created a Lung Health Jeopardy Game for VIP subscribers (download link in the VIP section below) and a Lung Health Crossword Puzzle Activity. Iβve also created the Silica safety infographic and related activity (in English and Spanish). To download the infographics and related training activities, click here.
If you find the resources in this newsletter valuable, please consider becoming a VIP Subscriber, today!
AI Video Creation Tools (Continued from last month)
Kaiber - a free option to try a few projects a month
DomoAI - Turns videos into different styles (only paid options)
Lensgo - similar to DomoAI but has a free option so you can experiment
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which occurred September 15 - October 15th, I am providing a link to various resources I have created in the past that have been translated into Spanish. If you find Spanish language resources helpful, please comment below and I will make more attempts at translating materials in the future. Thanks!

Whatβs In Your Bag
This month, subscriber Dan Hopwood shares what he carries with him when he travels to deliver training and presentations. Check out the infographic and additional details about each below. Thanks Dan!
Dan carries an extra βmouseβ so that it can be used as a clicker to advance slides if other devices are missing or not working. Another backup Dan carries is extra hard copies of his presentation since sometimes itβs necessary to revert to old-school methods if technology fails. Dan also carries business cards because he loves the connection with attendees/participants and always encourages ongoing dialogue and idea exchange. Almost always, Dan also carries a copy of a book he is reading and has used it as a reference in the session. He encourages those in attendance to take a deeper dive into whatever he has been talking about. Dan is also always ready with thought-provoking questions for attendees so he can encourage audience participation and engagement. Finally, Dan always has pictures of his grandsons. Dan says, βThey are tremendous motivating forces in life!β

Upskilling
If you read the December VIP issue, you will be familiar with Upskilling in 2024. This chart includes suggested areas for professional development and each month, I include content on one of the topics as it relates to safety training.
One of the topics identified in 2023 as being a theme for this year was workplace diversity and inclusion. In keeping with the focus of this newsletter, upskilling in this area will focus on how workplace diversity and inclusion can be integrated into safety training and how diversity and inclusion can be an important contributor to workplace safety. For as long as Iβve been in safety, most workplaces have recognized the importance of diverse viewpoints, but without a conscious effort to include others, we may miss out on important facts that need to be considered. For example, having an ergonomics committee that consists of all senior individuals from the same department can cause unique and new ideas to be overlooked.
